Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met on June 13 in Beijing with a delegation headed by Natalia Kanem, executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Zhao said that China, as a major country with a population of 1.4 billion, has maintained long-term friendly cooperation with the UNFPA in women and children's health, the protection of women and children, and research on population and development, which has yielded fruitful results and made significant contributions to the high-quality development of the world population.
The CIDCA is willing to take the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the UNFPA on the implementation of the Global Development Initiative as an opportunity to enhance institutionalized cooperation in international development, and to contribute new development outcomes to building a community with a shared future for mankind, he added.
Kanem spoke highly of China's firm stance in upholding multilateralism, which has provided valuable support for the UN in playing its core role in a turbulent world. The cooperation between the UNFPA and the CIDCA has been in-depth and dynamic, she said, expressing her hope to deepen the partnership under the South-South cooperation and tripartite cooperation frameworks, join hands to promote the development rights of women and children worldwide, and jointly assist other developing countries in realizing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
